The Pork Report – Your Tax Dollars At Work
To truly understand the incompetency of your government, it often helps to review the way it wastes your tax
dollars. In this post, we take a look at some of the classic choices.
Pork is the wasting of taxpayer money on asinine things. The “bridge to nowhere” was one of the big winners a
few years ago, but there have been far worse selections. I am a personal fan of one expenditure that came out in
2009. Get ready to be enraged, particularly given our $13 trillion national debt.
The Men of Argentina
My top all time pork selection is the $400,000 the government spent to study why gay men in Argentina who were
drunk engaged in risky sexual behavior. Now let me start by saying my objection has nothing to do with whether
someone is gay or not. Instead, let’s pretend we are talking about heterosexual couples.
The first problem is a lack of common sense and perspective. Why do drunk people in bars end up having more sex
than others? Hello? Is this really a difficult question? Perhaps more maddening is what exactly would be the
benefits of the study? Once it is determined the reason is BECAUSE THEY ARE DRUNK, what will the people conducting
the study do with this shocking information?
Then we have our second problem. The study focuses on gay men in Argentina. A.R.G.E.N.T.I.N.A… Why are we
spending money to study the sexual habits of anyone in another country? If you could somehow justify spending
$400,000 on such a study, wouldn’t it make more sense to study it in the United States?!
The continuation of pork spending is just another factor is shooting bullets into the future of our country. The
line item veto is something this country desperately needs.
