China Economy To Overtake United States in 2015
The IMF has announced that it believes that China will overtake the United States as the world’s biggest economy
in 2015. This huge story is barely getting any mentioned, which is shocking.
Changing Of Guard
The United States is the dominant super power in the world. It has been since the Soviet Union collapsed and was
arguably as well before even that given the inherent problem with communism. If the IMF is correct, this will
change forever in a mere four years. At that time, China will become the dominant economic power.
This is an absolutely huge development in the world, yet it receives no meaningful coverage. I whipped up the
Yahoo home page a minute ago and the main story is Simon Cowell might bring Paula Abdul into his new show. There’s
also an article on NFL draft busts and, of course, Lindsay Lohan. MSNBC.com is focused on the Royal wedding and, at
least, the fact a possible Republican presidential candidate has dropped out. Flip over to CNN and we have the
Royal wedding, the same candidate dropping out and nothing on this. Fox News is focused on swelling rivers in the
Midwest and gas prices. To it’s credit, there is a small link to a story on the subject on the home page.
So, it is good to know we have our priorities in order in this country. While we focus on frivolous matters, the
ship has some serious rust and is leaking water badly. Our national debt is an obscenity and it is only one of many
problems. The question is what will others do about it? Apparently, we will deal with it after the royals get
hitched.
Globalism Still Good?
We are constantly hit with the notion that global trade is a good thing. Well, for who? There is nobody in this
country that can really claim to be surprised that China is about to overtake us economically. After all, we’ve
sent them all our business and jobs. We have record unemployment in this country and the middle class is being
trimmed to the point where we are going to have upper class poor and lower class rich and nothing in between. This
is a good thing? I think not.
Accuracy
Ah, but what if this report isn’t accurate? Everyone has an axe to grind, after all. Well, it is a good point.
Maybe China won’t catch us in 2015. Maybe it will be 2014 or maybe it won’t be until 2020. It really doesn’t matter
what year it is. The bigger issue is we have lost our way. We are fading away as a great country and need to turn
the ship in a new direction. Alas, we need a great leader to do this. I’m not exactly over whelmed with what I see
being offered up for us in 2012.
